I have had the privilege of working with my community and advocating to strengthen our people's Social Determinants of Health for over four years now.
I strive to be a positive influence on my community and help all children know they are loved and supported no matter their situation. My love for the communities I have worked with has lead me to my journey of teaching because I hope to teach my students that no matter what they are smart, courageous, beautiful, and loved. |
These amazing children above are from an incredible program known as REACH which stands for Recreation, Employment Readiness, Academic Achievement, Communication Skills, Healthy Lifestyles. It is an afterschool Youth Development Program focused on academic achievement and prevention education for students ages 12-18. Project REACH has developed into multiple locations in both Vista and Oceanside. I had the privilege of being in the program myself as a youth; working alongside the new generation; and now I volunteer any chance I can. These children hold a special place in my heart and I hope to make them and my community proud.
Puberty and Sex Education As a Health Educator at Vista Community Clinic my role was to teach health educational topics to the youth in and out of school settings. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) strategies were also used during these presentations. To create a more safe and inclusive environment for the students as we discussed such heavy and personal topics.

My goal was to educate the youth and to do so in an inclusive, engaging and fun matter for all learners to have their voices be heard and respected. The more I aimed to create a safe environment and be real with my students the more I saw engagement and raw emotions be expressed in the atmosphere. I continue to be REAL with the students I come across each and every day. We are all learners, we all have a voice, and I aim to help each student find their voice and seek their potential.
